British Secretary of State for War, Field Marshal Lord Kitchener, drowned en route to Russia when HMS Hampshire strikes a mine off the Orkney Islands and sinks

Unregistered Car


A Cromer man was charged with driving an unlicensed motor vehicle belonging to Lieutenant Williams. The man was using it to give driving lessons whilst trying to sell the car on behalf of the Lieutenant. He was unaware that it needed to be licensed and was let off but ordered to pay costs.

Arab Revolt


Sheriff Hussein of Mecca launches an Arab Revolt against Turkish rule in the Hejaz region of Arabia.

Kings Bounty for Norwich Triplets


Mrs Frank Armes 29 of Norwich has received the Kings Bounty of £3 on the birth of her triplets. The birth took place on May 20th and the babies (a girl and two boys) are doing well.

The Lady Mayoress called in to see the babies.
